What is clean beauty?
Beauty enthusiasts nowadays seek out healthy and ethical brands and products.
They pay careful attention to how their purchases impact themselves, and then how these affect the environment and people around them.
Clean Beauty is IN and taking a new turn. But instead of always focusing on what is NOT included, we believe clean beauty should focus on purity, simplicity and naturalness.
The cores of clean beauty are its hero ingredients that have good safety profile and a product with a healthy formula which has multi-functional ingredients that is synergic with the other ingredients.
Beyond that, clean beauty skincare needs to be kind to environment. Having a lower carbon and/or energy footprint and featuring sustainable & conscious sourcing of ingredients are just some of the key features that all clean beauty brands should have.
But different brands have their own interpretation on “clean beauty”.
With that in mind, let’s try to be more conscious of what we buy. Let’s read the labels (yes, even the back ones) and do our research on the brand and their practices.

Purity of Ingredients – Canadian Willowherb:
Inspired by the traditional healing practices of the Native Americans, we found out that Canadian Willowherb is often used for a wide range of applications such as healing burns and soothing skin irritation.
Harvested from the Northern Canadian Prairies plants, where these multi-functional plants have acclimated to the cold and harsh climate in the north.
As we researched further, we realized that the Canadian Willowherb contains a bioactive molecule – Oenothein B, which is clinically proven to have anti-irritant and anti-bacterial benefits.
Research has shown that while Canadian Willowherb has many anti-irritant properties, the amount of concentrate matters.
Just 5% of Canadian Willowherb in water did not indicate any potential for dermal irritation and/or sensitization based our insult patch clinical test.
Which is why we decided to infuse our Soothing & Hydrating Booster with 30% of this precious Willowherb extract to target the growing need for calming and soothing the skin after a long day at work, or after being exposed to the city’s pollution and dust.

It is key to have products that are designed to work. Not just in the lab, but on Asian skin as well.
We always gather a bunch of skincare enthusiasts to try out our boosters to help us refine our formula.
In July 2020, we conducted a study based on 25 Asian women with our Soothing & Hydrating Booster.
