Affordable Skin Care Secrets of Supermodels
If you’re wearing as much makeup as the New York Fashion Week models, you’re bound to have skin flare-ups — acne, dryness, the works. These gorgeous women are running from show to show, only to have their faces scrubbed and repolished again and again through the week (and, for some, the month!). To find out how they get made over so many times in a row and still manage to look perfect on the runway, here are the skin care secrets what skin care steps they take when they’re back in their own bedrooms.
ALWAYS TAKE MAKEUP OFF BEFORE BED
“Never sleep with my makeup on because that’s a huge no-no. […] I use the Clarisonic skin brush a couple times a week, which really clears out your pores.” – Devon Windsor
USE AN OIL CLEANSER TO REMOVE MAKEUP
“I usually use an oil cleanser to take off the makeup. That really gets it off—it’s better than using a wipe or anything. Then I use a cream cleanser after the oil cleanser.” – Jessica Barta-Lam
DON’T TOUCH YOUR FACE UNNECCESARILY
“My sisters, since they’re a little bit older than Kylie and I, they’ve always wanted to help prevent anything that they’ve gone through when they were our age. So they’re like, ‘Never touch your face, never pick your face, always wash your face, and wear eye cream.’ They literally give us everything that we should do. So ever since then, we’ve started taking skincare really seriously.” – Kendall Jenner
NEVER USE MAKEUP WIPES ON YOUR EYES
“What I do for mascara that’s very gentle is I wash my face, put the water on lukewarm, and take my fingers and gently rub my eyelashes under the water. And then you take your mascara off gently like that. Just gently massage your eyelashes under the water, and that way you don’t have to scrub, scrub, scrub that delicate skin around your eyes, which is the first thing that starts wrinkling.” – Jaime King
KEEP UP WITH A BEAUTY ROUTINE
“I’m a spokesperson for Estée Lauder so I’m really a step-by-step [person] because of our job doing so much makeup every day. So I try to keep it very clean and then deep clean. Cleanser, toner, serum, day cream, night cream, sometimes use serum and a face mask. And drink a lot of water.” – Liu Wen
STAY HYDRATED
“I like soda, but if I don’t drink enough water my skin looks drier and greyer–it definitely glows more when I’m hydrated.” – Josephine Skriver
WEAR SUNSCREEN
“But one thing I always use is sunscreen. It’s important to protect your skin and keep it moisturised. […] I enjoy the sun but I try to be careful. It’s really hard because I like to have golden skin, but if I want some colour, I’ll just use bronzer.” – Natasha Poly
DON’T OVERLOAD YOUR ROUTINE WITH TOO MANY PRODUCTS
“Using too many products can irritate the skin. A couple times a week, when my skin isn’t terribly overworked, the best thing is to rinse my face with warm water. Also, I eat plenty of foods rich in vitamin A to help keep my skin clear.” – Erin Heatherton
